I am participating in an excellent show that explores today's political climate. The show is at Tippits Gallery at Utah State University, in Logan, Utah.

I was one of forty artists who had the privilege of making a box for Utah chapter of the American Cancer Society's Hope Gala this year. The Society is raising money to build a Hope Lodge in Salt Lake City, which will be home to cancer patients and their families who travel from out of town to receive treatment. The Gala was a huge success and 100% of the proceeds go towards the lodge.
I recently had a couple of interviews with art critic and 15 Bytes writer, Ehren Clark. We talked a lot about the meaning of my work and Ehren was able to put it all into words. It is fascinating as an artist to read a literary interpretation of your work. I think Ehren did a great job. Here's the review.
I'm excited to be part to this year's Kimball Art Center Relevant Show. It will feature art work from the artists in residence, their mentors, and past participants. I was a mentor last year and had an amazing experience. The work in the show will be of incredible quality and represents artists from across the country. The artists in residence are up-and-coming art students and their mentors are professionals. The program ends with the opening of the Park City Kimball Art Center Art Festival.
This show opens August 3, with a reception from 6-9 PM at the art center on Main Street, Park City.
I'll be part of a show at Alpine Art that opens on Friday, July 20th. The reception is from 6-9 PM. Alpine Art is located at 430 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. I'm excited to show with Trent Call, Mason Fetzer, Anthony Granato, Daniel Overstreet, and Dusk Raps.
For the next month I'll have a piece in "Artists for the New Century," a show at the Bennington Art Center in Bennington, Vermont. 70 artists were selected by the editors of American Art Collector, Southwest Art & Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine. Also in the show is fellow SLC artist, Aaron Bushnell. The show is June 9 through July 15.
This is a study for a larger work using layered panels. I really like how the added depth hints at the feel of the city. All of the images used were photographs I took during my last trip to New York. Below it is a detail shot taken from the side.
Every year, Art Access, one of Utah's best places to see and learn about art, holds a fund-raiser called 300 Plates. This year 130 artists did one or more plates for the event. A "plate" is actually a 11" x 10" sheet of aluminum, steel, or plexiglass. The fundraising event was held tonight, but plates will be on display through June 7. Here's a link to Art Access: http://accessart.org/
These are the three plates I did for the fundraiser.
These pieces were commissioned by the business school at the University of Utah.

My piece.
The quality of the work at this show was outstanding. Curator Namon Bills did an excellent job of putting everything together. Gallery Director Laura Durham did a great job of hanging it.
I have a piece in this show (it's the last one I posted, look down). Come and give it a title. The opening is Friday, April 20th from 6 to 9 PM, at the Rio Gallery in Salt Lake City
Untitled 48" x 24" x 3" This is a new idea I've been working with for a little while. After going to New York and walking the streets for two days straight, I couldn't shake the feeling of being so surrounded by buildings. This is an interpretation of that experience.
From Alex at Dwell Magazine, talking about the Sundance Film Festival lounge:
"Justin, I just wanted to make sure you received images from the event. I have more, but these are the ones on my desktop. wanted to make sure your received some! we just love your work, it was a perfect fit for the show! thanks again!"
Making this piece was a great experience. Soho Myriad (Atlanta) did an excellent job of framing and installing the work. Thanks to Aaron Hansen for taking the photo.
